A 47-year-old man accused of kidnapping, tying up and raping a teen has been arrested. The San Antonio Police Department believes there could be more victims.
Jamie Ray Rencher was charged with aggravated kidnapping on Dec. 31. The alleged victim, a 17-year-old girl, called San Antonio police to report that she had been raped.
She told officers that Rencher sexually assaulted her at a hotel in Conroe, which is 40 miles North of Houston, then drove her to San Antonio, where he eventually dropped her off at a park, SAPD Detective Shannon Purkiss wrote in an arrest affidavit that detailed the disturbing assault.
The teen told investigators that she met Rencher on a chat site, and they agreed to meet. Rencher picked up the teen at a restaurant near her house in Conroe. When she entered the car, Rencher told her to turn off her phone and give it to him. He crushed her phone with a wrench and threw it out the window, Purkiss wrote.
The teen told investigators that Rencher told her, "I will not kill you. I will not hurt you. I will not break your bones if you just listen and obey." That's when he sexually assaulted her, the affidavit states. The teen told him, "I'm scared. Take me home."
He replied, "I tied you up because you tried to escape." The teen told investigators that she was able to get a hand loose during the sexual assault. She hit and scratched him, but he put his hand over her mouth and pinched her nose so that she could not breathe. Rencher told the teen that if she kept fighting, "it was going to get worse," the detective wrote. After the assault, Rencher and the teen left the hotel.
She said she got back into the car because she was terrified and didn't know what to do.Rencher began texting a friend in San Antonio. He then told the teen he was going to drive her to San Antonio, where he planned to "store" her in a room in that friend's home until he figured out what to do with her. During the drive to San Antonio, Rencher stopped at a gas station and forced the teen to break her laptop and throw it in the trash can. Rencher's friend decided the teen couldn't stay in his home because she was only 17 years old.
Rencher dropped off the teen at a park and drove away. That's when a good Samaritan let the teen use his phone to call the police, the detective wrote. The teen was able to describe the hotel where the assault happened in Conroe and the Conroe Police Department, which is helping SAPD investigate the case, discovered that the room was rented under Rencher's name. The teen was also able to identify Rencher in a single photo lineup, according to the affidavit. SAPD officers found Rencher's car at his apartment in San Antonio. They found the red rope and chain lock used during the assault, which were in plain view, in his car, the affidavit states.
San Antonio police said more charges are pending for Rencher, who is currently housed at the Bexar County jail. His bail is currently set at $250,000, court records show. During the investigation, police learned information that leads them to believe there could be more victims. Those details are part of the ongoing investigation.Rencher's last known address, according to the affidavit, is at Stepping Stone Apartments, located at 7737 Skolout Street in San Antonio.
If anyone has information about Rencher, they are asked to call the SAPD Special Victims Unit at 210-207-2313. The report can be anonymous. San Antonio police advise the public to be cautious when meeting people online. They recommend meeting in public places and telling a trusted person of their whereabouts.
