Police: Miami man arrested after posing as rideshare driver and raping multiple women

Police officers in Miami arrested a repeat offender on Friday, August 23, for raping at least two women after pretending to be a rideshare driver. Yadir Alegandro Gongora, 40, reportedly assaulted two women in two separate incidents, picking up the women from outside of a Brickell, Florida bar.

The news comes less than a year after the Hialeah resident was arrested for exactly the same crime, having posed as an Uber driver in October of last year and picked up two unsuspecting women from outside of a nightclub in Wynwood.

Gongora now faces kidnapping and sexual battery charges and is being held without bond at the Metrowest Detention Center. The latest arrest relates to an incident that occurred in August, 2023, when a woman told officers at the Miami Police Department (MPD) that she had been sexually assaulted but couldn’t recall how it happened.
The woman described how she and some coworkers had gone out together in the evening and ordered an Uber car to Candela, a bar located in Brickell. She told officers that her phone died while at the bar, and she was unable to locate her friends. She walked out of the bar and said she recalled getting into a vehicle but could not recall how long she had remained there. According to the woman, she was raped by one man while another man drove the car.
According to a police report, the woman woke up inside of the car five hours later, with the two men still inside of the car. She was instructed by one of the men to get out of the car at a Publix supermarket.

By May of this year, police officers received new information that implicated Gongora in the crime. After being arrested and taken in for questioning last week, Gangora claimed that he did not know the woman and had never met her. He did, however, confirm that he worked unofficially as a taxi driver, picking up people from outside of clubs in Miami and Wynwood, after previously working for a rideshare app between 2017 and 2019.

An additional report describes how Gongora allegedly assaulted multiple women on different occasions using the same tactics. According to a September 2023 report, a 21-year-old woman claimed that she was picked up outside of a club and sexually assaulted after losing contact with her friends.

The woman could not remember if she ordered a rideshare car or if somebody else ordered it for her, and after returning home, she did not have her phone or wallet. She also realized that her underwear was in her purse.
Gongora was sentenced in May 2024 to two years of probation for a robbery charge.
