META Launches Enhanced End 2 End Encryption
Today META formally announced the implementation of End 2 End Encryption on its Facebook and Facebook Messenger platforms.
On December 7, 2023, META announced the roll out and implementation of End to End Encryption on its Facebook and Facebook Messenger applications. In their official announcements it indicated that the implementation would not be automatic for all accounts today but it would be a phased implementation over the coming months. META is touting the following enhancements to their applications;
- We have started to rollout end-to-end encryption for all personal chats and calls on Messenger and Facebook, making them even more private and secure.
- End-to-end encrypted conversations offer additional functionality including the ability to edit messages, higher media quality and disappearing messages.
- We’ve built our end-to-end encryption on strong cryptographic principles, such as the Signal Protocol, and our own novel Labyrinth Protocol.
Based on what we have seen from other companies implementing similar practices, we will probably receive less cybertips and also receive little to no information from search warrants. Making it all the more important to have forensic tools at our disposal to preserve evidence from both suspects and victims phones.
